About Me.

I received my bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Samford University and my master’s degree in journalism and creative media from the University of Alabama. My research interests are in film, womanism, Black feminism, and exploring how cult classics in the Black community uphold harmful stereotypes of Black women, which directly affect how they’re perceived in society. My research interests are inspired by my time at Samford University, as my interest in film production piqued during my sophomore year after taking a film production course to appease an elective requirement, which led me to add a film production minor due to enjoying the course. Within my minor, I took a film criticism class and enjoyed writing a final paper that explored and critiqued the ‘femme fatale character’ in Double Indemnity (1944).

After entering corporate America post-grad, I missed being in a classroom and the freedom I had in undergrad to explore, research and produce documentaries. I quickly realized a career as a professor would allow me to engage in research and creative work while also being able to impact the next generation of storytellers, so that is why I’m pursuing this degree. The professors I had at Samford, especially in my major's department, were phenomenal advocates and truly cared about my well-being as not only a student but me as a person, and I hope to make such an impact on my advisees and students within my academic career.
